Instructions
1. Apply a styling product to your entire head to keep your curls under control, as the preppy look is manicured, clean and neat. Tame frizz, volume and wild curls with mousse or styling gel.
2. Make your curls uniform in size if the curls are not natural. Use rollers of the same size or use the same size curling iron for your entire head. Uniformity is critical to the preppy look.
3. Part your hair in the middle, rather than on the side, to achieve balance. Wear a headband made of silk, satin, gingham or cotton. Choose preppy patterns, such as pinstripes, plaid or polka dots.
4. Pull your hair behind your head in a ponytail for a schoolgirl look. Tie the pony tail with a wide ribbon and fashion the ribbon into a bow.
5. Keep it simple and limit accessories. For instance, use two pearl bobby pins or a single barrette clip. Overaccessorizing may look too artsy or avant-garde, which contradicts the simplicity and neatness of the preppy look.
