Create A Hello Cat Costume

Sanrio's Hello Kitty character took the world by storm in the mid 1970s and has become a flagship character of the Japanese company. Hello Kitty appears on everything from accessories and clothing to DVDs and lunchboxes, particularly popular with young girls. With a few household items, fans can create a Hello Kitty Halloween costume to express their enthusiasm for the cute white cat.

Instructions

Make a Homemade Hello Kitty Costume

1. Glue the white bathrobe tie to the seat of the pajamas with a hot glue gun to create Hello Kitty's tail.

2. Prepare a papier-mache paste. Pour 1 cup of flour into 4 cups of water and bring to a boil, allowing the paste to cool.

3. Create the Hello Kitty headpiece. Inflate the balloon and tie it off. Cover the balloon gently in strips of newspaper soaked in the papier-mache mixture.

4. Spray paint the dried papier-mache balloon white. Use scissors to pop the balloon and remove it from the head shape.

5. Assemble Hello Kitty's head. Cut the costume cat ears from their headband and hot glue them onto the papier-mache head. Attach three pipe cleaners on each side of the face with a hot glue gun to create whiskers. Shape one pipe cleaner into a circle and hot glue it into place as Hello Kitty's nose. Attach the bow under Hello Kitty's left ear.

6. Put safety touches on the costume head. Cut out two circles in the head to represent Hello Kitty's eyes and glue two pieces of screen behind the holes for easy vision. Widen the hole at the base of the head and use the scissors to create ventilation holes near the whiskers.

7. Carry the red patent leather purse for a signature look.
