Kork Ribbon

When you kork ribbon, you are essentially curling it. The process of korking ribbon provides you with a tightly curled ribbon often referred to as korker ribbon. Korker ribbon is most often used for making festive hair bows. By fastening several of these ribbons together in the center you can create a pom-pom type bow which extends out in all directions. Affixed to a headband, hair clip or elastic, this bow will make a charming accessory for young girls.

Instructions

1. Use a small hand saw to cut a 1/4 inch dowel rod down to the desired length for your finished, curled korker ribbon.

2. Secure the end of the ribbon to one end of the dowel rod with a clothespin. Hold the dowel rod in your left hand and wind the ribbon with your right. Wrap the ribbon around the dowel rod so that it does not overlap with itself. Continue to work your way down to the opposite end of the dowel rod.

3. Trim the ribbon when you reach the other end of the rod, and secure this end of the ribbon to the rod with a second clothespin.

4. Heat the oven to 275 degrees. Place the ribbon-wrapped dowel rod in the oven on a baking sheet for about 20 minutes to set the curl.

5. Remove the dowel rod from the oven and remove one of the clothespins. Gently remove a few curls of ribbon from the rod. If the ribbon is stiff and maintains the curl, your project is complete. If the ribbon is still soft and begins to uncurl, place it back in the oven for five to 10 more minutes.
