Transform simple bows into sensational hair ornaments.
Butterflies delight and inspire us with their delicate wings. Stylized bows reminiscent of their beauty add a stylish touch to any hairstyle. Boutiques are synonymous with fashion and boast attractive accessories for ladies with taste. But they can also boast some pretty high prices. These simple techniques will transform a little ribbon and a few beads into a fabulous butterfly bow of boutique quality in less than an hour, saving money and reflecting the personal style of the maker.
Instructions
Create the Butterfly Body
1. String five pony beads onto the satin cord.
2. Hold the beads at the center of the cord and insert the left end of the cord back through the bead on the right end creating a circle.
3. String four beads on one side of the cord and five on the other. Pass the first cord back through the fifth bead on the opposite side, creating another circle.
4. String two beads on one side of the cord and three on the other. Pass the first cord back through the third bead on the other cord, creating a third circle.
5. String three beads on one side of the cord and pass the cord back through the second and first bead, creating an antenna. Repeat on the other cord.
6. Tie the two ends together and trim off the excess cord. Add a drop of hot glue to the knot to secure it.
Make the Wings
7. Cut the ribbon into two pieces, one 9-inch piece and one 18-inch piece.
8. Join the ends of one of the pieces of ribbon to create a circle. Repeat with the other piece.
9. Fold each circle of ribbon in half and place the center point of the smaller circle on the center of the larger one.
10. Wrap the thread tightly around the center point, pinching the ribbon into four loops and securing them to each other in a wing configuration. Twist the loops as necessary to separate the wing sections.
Assemble the Butterfly Bow
11. Hot glue the butterfly body to the bow.
12. Hot glue the bow to the top of the metal clip.
13. Clean up any threads of glue by clipping them with scissors when cooled completely.
