Break up the softness of pink by adding black nail polish.
Nail polish trends go in and out of fashion as stylists continually experiment with color combos. Pink shades are always in style, but pair them with black nail polish and you have the femininity of pink with a youthful edge. If pink is your go-to color, request some black accents the next time you go in for your mani/pedi. Or do it yourself at home.
Every Other Color
Paint one nail pink, the next nail black and the following nail pink until you have all your fingernails covered. Another version of this technique is to paint one hand all pink and the other hand all black.
Black on Pink
Apply coats of pink nail polish to your nails. Select a pattern or design to go on top of the pink, such as black dots, black diagonal lines or an intricate design such as a black star, heart or smiley face. Using a toothpick, dip the point into the black nail polish and use it to create the design on top of the pink color.
Pink on Black
Reverse the style with a base of black nail polish and design in pink. Paint pink stripes, dots and -- on Valentine's Day -- hearts.
French Tips
Pink and black nail polish colors add an interesting twist to French nail techniques. To accomplish this look, figure out which color you want to be on the tip -- black nail polish with a pink tip or pink nail polish with a black tip. If you are doing your own nails, apply the main color to most of your nail, leaving the tips of your nails for the second color. Carefully apply the second color to the tips of your nails only. This part takes practice. Make sure you do not use too much nail polish or the polish will run into the main color.
Embellishments
No matter how you style your pink and black nail polish, you have the choice of adding embellishments just as you would with any other color. Consider adding small rhinestones, flowers or stickers that are in same color scheme. For example, if you have a solid pink nail polish on your nails, add black rhinestones on top. Select pink stickers to place on top of black nail polish.
