For a simple 4th of July craft project, why not make a patriotic windsock? It's easy enough for kids to make, and with a little imagination it could be as sophisticated as you want it to be.
Instructions
1. Cut the bottom out of your cylindrical container. Wrap your craft paper around the tube and secure it with glue. If you're using blue paper with white stars, secure the blue paper with glue, then affix the white stars.
2. Once all the glue is dry, attach the ribbon to the bottom of the cylinder with glue, alternating the red and white ribbon. Three to 4-foot strips should do well but make them as short or as long as you like.
3. Once the glue holding the ribbons is set, punch 4 holes around the rim of the top of the canister. Each hole should be placed at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock if the top were laid out like a clock face.
4. Run pieces of string through the alternating holes you just punched. Secure them together in the middle, then add a string in the middle to hang the windsock from.
5. Hang your windsock out for everyone to admire.
