Make Baby Mind Bands

Homemade headbands can be made to easily fit your child's head.

A cute headband can be just the right statement on your baby or toddler. While there are many pink and white headbands available for purchase, you can make baby headbands at home for less expense and use any colors you want. Select fabrics which match your child's clothing to complete an outfit, or make a variety of bands in multiple fabrics so you have many to choose from.

Instructions

1. Measure your baby's head from the back of the neck to the top of the forehead all the way around. Subtract 2 inches from this measurement.

2. Cut out your fabric the length you determined previously by 2 1/2 inches wide. Fold the fabric over lengthwise with right sides together. Sew a 1/4-inch seam down the length to secure the edges.

3. Turn the fabric tube right side out. Use a hot iron to press the tube flat with the seam of the band running down one side. Tuck the raw edges of the tube in by half an inch with your fingers and press to hold.

4. Slip one end of the elastic into one end of the tube by 1/2 inch. Sew across the opening of the fabric to attach the elastic 1/4 inch in from the edge of the fabric. Sew a second seam at 3/8 inch in from the edge to fully secure the elastic.

5. Loop the fabric tube around and slip the other end of the elastic into the other tucked in edge of the fabric by 1/2 inch. Sew the elastic to the other side of the fabric in the same manner as the first side.

6. Set the headband around your child's head with the elastic portion running along the back of the neck. Check the band every few hours to make sure it is not too tight or irritating the skin underneath.
