Princess Hair Bow Instructions

A princess bow should be big and full.

Being a princess is a dream for many girls while growing up and a favorite dress-up character. Even when not playing dress-up, a princess hair bow is a way for girls to still feel like princesses. As with everything "princess," a princess hair bow needs to be big, girly and pink, if possible. While you can just tie a ribbon around a pony tail, attaching a ribbon to a barrette clip makes it a long-lasting hair accessory, which is bound to become a favorite.

Instructions

1. Cut 8 lengths of the 1-inch ribbon, each 12 inches long.

2. Fold the sides of the ribbon in, to meet in the center. Place a single stitch with your needle and thread through the two ends of the ribbon and the back of the center of the ribbon. Do this for all eight pieces of ribbon.

3. Cut a 10-inch piece of the 1-inch ribbon. Cut an inverted triangle out of both ends. Cut another piece, 8 inches in length, and cut the ends the same way.

4. Lay two of the ribbon loops across each other in an "X" shape, with their centers aligning. Take the 10-inch piece of ribbon with the pointed ends and fold it at an angle in the middle, so there are two 5-inch tails, at opposing angles. Lay this on top of the ribbon loops.

5. Lay the two remaining loops in an "X" over the top of these, making sure this "X: is at a slightly different angle, so each loop end can be seen. Fold the remaining 8-inch piece of ribbon with pointed ends the same way as the first and lay it over the top of all the other ribbon pieces.

6. Thread your needle and put the tip through all the layers of ribbon, at the bottom edge. Bring the tip back through the top, 1/4 inch away, and put it back through and bring it out again, another two 1/4-inch distances apart. Press the sides of the center of the ribbon together, with the needle still through, so three ridges or pleats form in the middle.

7. Pull the needle and thread through, holding the pleats together as you do. Wrap the thread around the pleats in the center, then tie it off at the back of the bow. Your princess bow is almost complete.

8. Cut a 3-inch length of the 1/2-inch wide ribbon and wrap it around the center, stitching it securely at the back of the bow. Put a generous blob of hot glue on the back of the bow and press it onto the top of the barrette clip. Let dry before putting in your little princess's hair.
