Create hairbows in every color to match your attire.
Girls of all ages and with varied hair lengths enjoy wearing classic hairbows, which add a feminine touch to nearly any outfit. You can create custom hairbows with inexpensive ribbon found at nearly any craft store in a wide range of colors, textures and designs. Glue is not required to make a hairbow; substitute it with needle and thread instead. Add a little flair to any hairstyle with your own one-of-a-kind hair accessory.
Instructions
1. Measure and cut a piece of 1 1/2-inch grosgrain ribbon to a length of 23 inches. Measure and cut a second piece of ribbon to a length of 5 inches. Hold one end of the longer ribbon in each hand.
2. Fold the right ribbon end over 4 1/2 inches to overlap the remaining ribbon. Repeat this action, folding the ribbon over on top of itself three additional times.
3. Pinch the ribbon bunch in the center and hold it in place with your thumb and forefinger. Pull the ends of the ribbon out slightly from the folded ribbon bunch. Create small folds in the right and left ribbon loops as you spread them out to give the bow a fuller look.
4. Wrap a 1-inch piece of craft wire around the center of the bow. Twist the wire in the back to hold the bow together. Cut any excess craft wire from the back of the bow.
5. Wrap the 5-inch piece of ribbon around the center of the hairbow. Tie a knot on the back of the hairbow to hide the craft wire. Cut off the excess ribbon approximately 1/2 inch away from the knot.
6. Place the alligator clip horizontally across the back of the hairbow, on top of the knot. Thread the sewing needle, hold the alligator clip open, and sew the bottom of the clip to the ribbon knot. Continue to sew until the clip is secure.
