Ribbon and alligator clips make beautiful hair bows.
Little girls love to wear bows that coordinate with each one of their outfits. The bows can be expensive and don't seem to last long, get misplaced, or the child will outgrow the outfit that the bow coordinates with. You can purchase fabric ribbon at discount, craft or fabric stores along with the alligator clips that will secure the beautiful bows to her hair. This will enable you to make several homemade bows for the price of just one at the retail stores.
Instructions
1. Cut your main ribbon into two 6-inch pieces and one 1 1/2-inch piece.
2. Cut the coordinating ribbon into a 5-inch piece.
3. Light the match or a lighter and hold it at each end of the ribbon, just for a second or two, long enough to burn off the frayed edges and seal the ribbon so that it will not fray with use. Repeat this on all the ribbon ends.
4. Fold the 6-inch ribbons in half and press firmly to make a crease. These pieces will make the bottom portion of the bow. Fold the 5-inch piece of ribbon and crease it in the middle. You will use this as the top portion of the bow.
5. Glue each end of the ribbons toward the center section where the crease is, the right side of the fabric will be facing out.
6. Use the two ribbons in the main color to form an X. It doesn't matter if it is close together or far apart; it depends on what type of bow you want. Place a dot of hot glue on the bottom loop in the center and press the two together to form the X.
7. Place the coordinating color ribbon horizontally on top of the other two ribbons, so that it is in the center of the X at each end. Place a dot in the middle of the two ribbons and glue the coordinating piece down.
8. Open the alligator clip and insert the ribbon piece ends of the 1 1/2-inch piece underneath the bowed area of the clip and glue it down. If this is too awkward, you can easily remove the bowed metal piece and replace it after you have glued the fabric in place.
