Create A Donald Duck Ears Headband

If you are having a Mickey Mouse theme party for your daughter, you need the ears. It's inexpensive to purchase a headband and make your own set out of fuzzy material. This is simple sewing and you can make several in an evening.

Instructions

1. Check out any Mickey Mouse link on your computer to find a pattern for your ears. Print the picture and enlarge to the appropriate size to fit your headband.

2. Use your pattern and cut out two circular ear disks from poster board or similar weight paper. Place them on the velour material and cut two disks of fabric for each ear. Cut two 2-by-5-inch velour strips.

3. Right sides together, sew the circles of velour ¾ of the way around. Insert the poster board ear shapes and hand stitch the circle closed. Repeat for the other ear.

4. Thread the sewing machine with white thread. Use a narrow zigzag stitch to stitch in "ear" details like the edge fold.

5. Take the two velour strips. Lay them right sides together with the bottom edge of the ears sandwiched between the strips. There should be about 4 inches between the ears, but check against the headband so that they are correctly placed; readjust if necessary. Sew the entire length of the strip, catching the ears in the seam.

6. Wrap the velour strip around the headband; trim away any excess material, and glue the edges and underside securely to the band. The curve of the headband should allow the ears to stick out at just the right angle.

7. If this is an all-girl party, tie a pretty red satin Minnie Mouse bow and glue it in the center between the ears.
