Blossom -- with actress Nicole Eggert -- wore her red bow proudly at the 2002 opening of "The Powerpuff Girls" movie.
Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, of Cartoon Network's long-running animated series "The Powerpuff Girls," were made of sugar and spice and a little bit of "chemical X." They can fly and fight, but the coolest thing about them to some fans is their candy-colored wardrobe. Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup would be an adorable group costume -- accurate accessories add authenticity. Blossom, for instance, wore a pointy hair bow that's a must to make a Blossom Halloween costume sure to be the talk of Townsville.
Instructions
1. Lay a sheet of paper on the table so that the long side is closest to you. Draw a trapezoid on the paper by drawing a 7-inch, horizontal line in the center of the paper. Draw a 4-inch line on each side of the bottom end of the horizontal line and a 5 1/2-inch line on each side of the top end of the line. These lines should be perpendicular to the first line. Connect the ends of the horizontal lines to finish the trapezoid. The first line is just a drawing aid, not part of the pattern.
2. Use the trapezoid pattern to cut two pieces of red fabric and one piece of quilt batting.
3. Lay the pieces of fabric together with the right sides on the inside and all edges even. Lay the batting on top and pin everything together.
4. Sew the pieces together by sewing around the shapes, 1/2 inch from the edge. Leave a 3-inch opening in the bottom edge for turning.
5. Clip the corners by cutting off the corners of the seam allowances, the fabric that extends beyond the seams. Cut close to the seams, but do not cut the seams.
6. Turn the bow right side out and hand sew the opening closed.
7. Cut a 4-inch square of red fabric. Lay it right side down on an ironing board. Fold in 1 inch on each side and iron the folds. Fold up 1/2 inch on the bottom of the strip and iron this fold also.
8. Pinch down the center of the top of the bow. The top is the long parallel side. Wrap the strip of fabric around the center of the bow and sew the folded edge down to hold it in place.
