You can make a hair bow for a variety of events.
Hair bows add a touch of color to your hairstyle and can help your hairdo keep its shape. Making your own custom hair bows is a process that yields impressive and attractive results. You can make a hair bow that is a simple shape with two loops or you can create something intricate with many loops and several ribbon colors. Beginner hair bow creators may want to stick with a simple design at first, but don't be afraid to branch our and create more intricate hair bows when you feel able.
Instructions
1. Determine the width you want for your bow when you finish. Double that amount and add 1inch to the measurement. Cut a piece of ribbon this length.
2. Thread a piece of string through a sewing needle. Cut the piece of thread to 8 inches in length and double up the ends. Tie the ends of the thread in a knot.
3. Fold the ribbon around to make a loop. Allow the edges of the ribbon to overlap each other by 1 inch.
4. Pinch the loop between your fingers and poke the sewing needle through the layers of ribbon. The needle must poke through the overlapping pieces of ribbon to hold them together. Pull the thread through until the knot stops it from going further.
5. Wrap the needle and thread around the ribbons width. Pull the string just lightly enough to make the center constrict so the ribbon looks like a bow tie. Thread the needle through the center of the bow one more time and then cut it loose from the thread.
6. Tie the two loose ends of thread into a knot. Cut a 2-inch long piece of ribbon that is 1/2 inch in width. Wrap the second ribbon around the first to cover the thread.
7. Overlap the ends of the second ribbon on the back of the first ribbon. Pass a needle with thread through the overlapping section of ribbon to create small loops of thread that hold the ribbon together. Cut the needle from the thread and tie off the ends.
8. Place a dot of super glue over the stitching on the back of the ribbon. Stick it onto a plain metal hair clip and allow the glue to adhere.
