Start crocheting a hair bow by making a simple chain.
Use your crochet skills to create colorful hair bows. These crocheted hair bows are made using the single crochet stitch to form two different sized rectangles. The smaller rectangle is wrapped around the center of the larger rectangle and glued in place to create the bow. These bows can be attached to hair clips, barrettes or head bands to create multiple stylish hair accessories. Use multicolored or solid-colored yarns to make bows that match specific outfits.
Instructions
1. Tie a slip knot in the end of a piece of yarn. Slip the hooked end of any size crochet hook through the loop. Crochet a row of chain stitches equal in length to the desired length of the bow.
2. Turn the chain and skip the first chain space. Form a single crochet stitch in the second chain space by inserting the hook through the chain's center, hooking the yarn and pulling it back through the chain. Hook the yarn once more, and pull it through the two loops on the crochet hook to finish the stitch. Make a single crochet stitch in each of the remaining chain spaces.
3. Make two chain stitches and then turn your work. Crochet a single crochet stitch in each of the single crochet stitch spaces from row two. Repeat this step two to four more times until the width of the work equals your desired width for the bow.
4. Work your way around the perimeter of the rectangle, forming single crochet stitches in each stitch around the edges. Clip the yarn, leaving a 3-inch tail once you have crocheted around the entire rectangle. Tie a knot in the base of the tail and weave the end in through the previous stitches.
5. Tie a slip knot in the end of the yarn, insert the crochet hook into the loop and make a chain long enough to wrap around the center of the first rectangle. Turn the chain and skip the first chain space. Single cross stitch in the next chain space and in each remaining chain space to the end.
6. Clip the yarn leaving a 3-inch tail. Tie this tail together in a knot with the tail from the beginning slip knot. Weave the loose ends into the previous stitches.
7. Place a drop of hot glue on the back center of the larger rectangle. Press one end of the smaller rectangle into the hot glue and hold until the glue dries. Wrap the smaller rectangle around the center of the larger one to gather the larger one together to form a bow. Hot glue the second end of the smaller rectangle to the back of the first end.
8. Glue the back of the completed hair bow onto a hair clip, barrette or headband.
