Greeting cards are used for a variety of purposes including holidays, birthdays and to express heartfelt emotions for another. Bows can add a personalized touch to a card or help to promote understanding of a situation, such as the use of pink ribbon bows for breast cancer awareness or yellow ribbons for remembering active duty soldiers. Making your own bow and attaching it to a handcrafted or purchased card can add an extra level of sentiment to your gift.
Instructions
1. Hold the length of ribbon between the thumb and forefinger of each hand.
2. Create two loops by folding the ribbon. These are the loops of the bow itself.
3. Twist the loops over and under each other and pull tightly. This cinches the loops, creating your stand-alone bow. A standing bow is necessary as it will not be tied to the card directly.
4. Trim the ends of the bow so that they correctly match the size of your card. Use a larger bow for a more pronounced statement or a smaller one for a simpler effect.
5. Glue the ribbon to the card. Place it at one edge for regular, one-page cards. Put the bow towards the fold for mountain fold type cards.
