Japan Honeymoon Locations

There are many Japanese destinations that are perfect for honeymoons.

Japan is a country of romance (for inspiration, think of the tragic story of Madame Butterfly) and is an ideal honeymoon destination whether you are looking for relaxation and pampering, an action-packed city break or an idyllic beach resort. There are many options in a country that is so diverse, and exploring different parts of Japan is made easy by the comfortable, efficient transport system.

Honeymoon in Kyoto

Kyoto is a picturesque city set in the hills.

Kyoto, Japan's ancient imperial capital, boasts 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, around 1,600 Buddhist temples, 400 Shintō shrines, three palaces and several museums and gardens. If you are interested in Japanese culture, a honeymoon in Kyoto will fascinate you. Highlights include Gion Corner in the geisha quarter and a walk along the River Kamo. If you want to venture further afield, Osaka, Nara and Kobe are within easy access.

Honeymoon in Tokyo

Tokyo is a vibrant, modern city.

A honeymoon in Tokyo offers many options to suit all tastes and budgets. It is the place to go to experience old and new Japan side by side. Highlights include the largest Shinto shrine (Meiji Jingu) and the most important Buddhist temple (Sensoji). No honeymoon in Tokyo is complete without a shopping expedition, even just to experience the superior level of service. A morning trip to Tsukiji fish market is an activity to kickstart your day.

Honeymoon in Okinawa Islands

If you and your newlywed want to combine your Japanese honeymoon with island hopping, the tropical islands of Okinawa could be the perfect choice. The tiny islands offer extensive opportunities for snorkelling, and combined with picturesque walking opportunities and a warm, tropical climate, can give honeymooners a side of Japan that is different to the popular Japanese image. Daily flights depart from Tokyo and Osaka to Okinawa, the largest of the islands.

Honeymoon in Suzu

Relaxing in a hot spring is an enjoyable honeymoon activity.

For a secluded honeymoon in Japan that is a little different from the norm, consider Suzu, a small town on the west sea cost. Specifically, the Lamp No Yado Inn, which is set at the foot of a cliff on the sea edge, is the ultimate in romantic, idyllic honeymoon spots. The open-air baths allow you to relax and watch the sunset surrounded by candlelight.
