Bake And Curl A Ribbon

Curly corkscrew ribbon hair bows for little girls and elaborate gift bows are very pricey in boutiques and gift shops, but you can bake and curl ribbon yourself to make your own bows. Purchase inexpensive ribbon or use up bits from your leftover scraps to create spiral wrapped ribbon curls for bows with a high-end look. Baking and curling ribbon takes less than 15 minutes, and your children can help with this kid-friendly craft technique.

Instructions

1. Clip one end of your ribbon to one end of a wooden barbecue skewer using a clothespin.

2. Wrap the ribbon around the skewer in a spiral from one end to the other. Do not overlap the spirals. Cut the ribbon at the other end of the skewer and clip with another clothespin. Wrap as many skewers as needed for your project.

3. Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and preheat your oven to 200 degrees F.

4. Spray the ribbon wrapped skewers with water using a spray bottle. Saturate the ribbon thoroughly.

5. Lay the skewers on the cookie sheet and place it in your oven. Bake the ribbon for approximately 10 to 15 minutes, or until it is completely dry. Ribbon types and their thickness may require more or less time.

6. Remove the clothespins and slide your baked corkscrew ribbons off the skewers.
