Make Women Barrettes And Hair Bows

Hold your little girl's hair back with a homemade hair barrette.

Little girls always look darling sporting a cute barrette or hair bow. However, if you go to a hair boutique or even a drug store, you'll find that these cute hair accessories can be quite pricey. Instead of purchasing the expensive hair goods, learn make them yourself. With a plain barrette, hot glue and some ribbon, you can make an adorable hair barrette for as little as $10. With only a hair tie and ribbon, you can make a simple hair bow (that will never come undone) for $2 or nothing at all.

Instructions

Barrette

1. Lay your barrette flat onto a hard surface.

2. Run a strip of hot glue along the length of the top of the barrette.

3. Place the ribbon directly on top of the glue. Press down to adhere.

4. Cut off the excess sides of the ribbon that hang over the barrette. Run the flame from the lighter quickly over the sides to seal the ribbon. This will help to prevent fraying.

5. Apply a tiny dot of glue to the underneath ends of the ribbon, since the ribbon will hang slightly over the ends of the barrette.

6. Fold the ends under the barrette and press down to adhere.

7. Embellish the barrette with cute buttons, beads or other accessories by gluing them to the middle of the ribbon. Allow the barrette to completely dry for 3 hours before wearing.

Hair Bow

8. Cut your ribbon so it is 16 inches in length. Run the flame from a light along the very ends of the ribbon. This will seal in the ends, preventing fraying.

9. Slide a hair tie onto the ribbon. Join the hair tie ends together so the hair tie falls to the middle.

10. Tie the ribbon into a knot.

11. Pull the girl's hair back into a ponytail. Use the ribbon hair tie to secure the hair. Adjust the tie so the knot of the ribbon is facing up on top of the ponytail.

12. Pull the sides of the ribbon down either side of the ponytail, crisscross underneath the ponytail and pulled up to the top. Tie the ribbon into a simple bow. This hair tie will stay in place all throughout school, playing at recess, even a cheerleading practice or soccer game.
