Cheerleading hairstyles can be up or down.
In cheerleading, cheerleaders may not want to pull their hair back for a variety of reasons: it may be too short for a traditional ponytail, or they want to have a more feminine look. No matter what the reason, a half-up and half-down hairstyle can help solve the problem. However, because cheerleading involves so much movement, make sure to construct your hairstyle in a particular way.
Braids
For a distinctive half-up and half-down cheerleading hairstyle, consider making two small braids at the front of your hair and then pulling them to the back of your head and combining them in one longer braid. This will allow you to keep the hair out of your face, while also providing you with a distinctive look. Make sure to use hairspray so no loose ends escape during your routines.
Ponytail
While large ponytails are common in cheerleading, making a smaller ponytail with a half-up and half-down hairstyle is slightly less common. To do this, gather only the top of of your hair (from your ears upward, for example), and brush it back to the back of your head. There, gather it into a hair elastic, pushing it down so it lays flat.
Barrettes
A classic way to accomplish a half-up and half-down cheerleading hairstyle, barrettes come in a variety of shapes and colors; it should be possible to find some that go well with your uniform. To use barrettes for a half-up and half-down hairstyle, pull the top part of one side of your hair halfway back, to just above your ear and secure it with a barrette, then repeat with the other side.
Poof
Though this half-up and half-down hairstyle works best on cheerleaders with bangs, it can also work on those with short- to medium-length hair. Take the front section of your hair, 3- to 4-inches wide, and gather it together. Flip it back so it makes a loop over your hair, and secure it to the rest of your hair using several bobby pins and hairspray.
