A small red bow adorns a cheerleader's ponytail.
A red bow is visually striking no matter what size it is. A red bow of any size can ornament everything from hair to clothing to gifts. For those who take simple delight in this embellishment, it can even become a trademark icon featured on home decorations and gifts in every season. There are myriad ways to incorporate small red bows into nearly any craft project.
Clothing and Accessories
Red bows are an ideal adornment for clothing and accessories. Hot-glue them to barrettes or headbands to create striking hair accessories. Add little bows to shoes above the toe or to straps on the ankle to personalize footwear. They are especially fitting on ballet flats, which often have a small bow anyway, which can be replaced with a custom red counterpart. Bows would be well placed on swimsuit straps or tote bags or as an embellishment to a blouse or dress, especially for a little girl. For a boy, make a little red clip-on bow tie.
Gift Packaging
While a standard red bow is festive, there are many ways to go a step further to make a red bow even more impactful. String beads onto the ribbon before tying the bow. Add paper cutouts, silk petals or small tags to create an entire garland, finished neatly with a small red bow. Go all out and punctuate a ribbon with many small red bows before tying it around a package. Add a red bow to the gift itself such as a candle, the stem of glassware, a bookmark or decorative box.
Food Packaging and Decoration
Bows add extra punch to food packaging. They are especially gratifying on jars of homemade food, like jams and jellies. Bundle fresh, home-grown produce or flowers with a red bow, or wrap one around a loaf of bread, box of cookies or a cake. Craft small red bows out of fondant to create edible embellishment for baked goods.
Home Decoration
Add a red bow, or many, to a throw pillow. Sew ribbons to the top of drapes to be tied around the curtain rod so that drapery hangs by small red bows. Stitch them onto pillowcases or pillow shams for embellishment. Make a wreath that features one or a few small red bows, or construct a wreath covered entirely by red bows to create a real statement piece.
