The final product
Learn to make adorable hair barrettes with a little glue, ribbon and bottle caps. While there are many types of bows that can be used, these instructions use a tailored bow technique, with a bottle cap in the middle.
Instructions
1. Cut three lengths of ribbon, each decreasing in size from the longest. Make a circle with each length, overlapping the ends about 1 inch. Staple the ends together. Stack the loops with the longest on the bottom and staple in the middle. Cut a short length of ribbon and glue it around the middle portion of the bow. Optional: Glue tails to the underside of the bow.
2. Take a French barrette and glue the back of the bow to the top of the barrette.
3. Craft the bottle cap. Use either brand new bottle caps or caps you've collected from drinks you've had. Brand new bottle caps may work better since the outside edge is already flared out. Choose an image the size of the top of the bottle cap and cut it to fit. This works best with a 1-inch circle cutter. Glue the image to the top of the bottle cap. Use the paper glaze to give the cap a glass-like shine.
4. Put the cap onto the bow. Apply glue to the underside edges of the bottle cap and press it onto the center of the bow. Hold for 30 seconds as the glue sets.
5. Let the glue set for several hours before attempting to use the barrette.
