Scrunchies can be a great way for cheerleaders to show their team spirit while keeping their hair out of their face while they're on the field cheering on their team. You can buy scrunchies in stores, but making your own is easy to do, can ensure that you are able to match your team colors perfectly--and can save you some cash in the process.
Instructions
1. Cut your fabric into rectangles around 4 inches by 1 foot in length. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise, with the side you want showing in your finished scrunchie facing each other.
2. Sew a seam using your sewing machine or needle and thread lengthwise down the open end of the rectangle, about 1/4 of an inch into the fabric.
3. Turn the fabric inside-out so that the seam is hidden inside your rectangle, which should now look like a tube.
4. Safety pin one side of the elastic strip to one end of your tube. Run the elastic band through the inside of your tube, scrunching up your fabric in the process.
5. Tie the two ends of your elastic together in a knot once you have made your way through the entire fabric tube.
6. Fold in the ragged ends of the tube and then sew a seam directly down the middle, connecting the two side of the rectangle and reinforcing the connection of the elastic to your fabric tube.
7. Stretch your scrunchie a few times to ensure the seam and elastic connection are secure. It should be ready to wear.
