Adding decoration to a pony-O can provide a sense of celebration or movement.
Korkers are popular among young girls as well as cheerleaders, dancers and gymnasts. A pile of springy ribbons sitting on top of a well-secured hairstyle provides a sense of movement and energy. Most korkers are attached to barrettes or clips with hot glue. However, hot glue would inhibit the elasticity of a pony-O and be likely to fall off the first time the pony-O was stretched. Therefore, to attach korkers to pony-Os, you must do it in a way that will allow the pony-O to stretch while keeping the ribbons secure.
Instructions
Creating the Korker Bow
1. Cut the curled korker ribbon into 30 to 50 pieces the desired length with sharp scissors. For smaller girls, 2- to 3-inch pieces are usually appropriate. For teenagers, 4 to 6 inches may be necessary.
2. Coat the cut ends of the ribbon with clear nail polish to prevent fraying.
3. Cut a 12-inch piece of thread and thread the needle. Tie a large knot in the loose end of the thread.
4. Pull the thread through the center of each piece of ribbon with the needle.
5. Wrap the thread around the center of the ribbons and press the needle through the center of the ribbons. Repeat this step until there is just enough thread to tie off. Tie off the thread.
Attaching the Bow to the Pony-O
6. Cut another 12-inch piece of thread, place it through the needle and tie the end of the thread.
7. Starting at the top of the bow, push the needle down through the korker ribbons. Pull the thread until the knot catches at the top of the ribbons.
8. Push the needle down through the pony-O and pull the pony-O up the thread until it is against the bottom of the ribbons.
9. Press the needle up through the bottom of the pony-O and the ribbons and pull the thread snug.
10. Repeat Steps 2 to 4 until there are approximately 3 inches of thread remaining and the excess thread and needle are coming through the bottom of the pony-O.
11. Push the needle up through the pony-O only so that the loose thread comes out between the pony-O and the ribbons.
12. Wrap the loose thread snugly around the threads between the pony-O and the ribbons, similar to the way that buttons are secured to clothing. Do this unto there is 1 1/2 inches of thread remaining.
13. Pass the needle through the ribbons and tie the thread off and remove the needle.
