Make Baby Hair Add-ons

Depending on the length of your baby's hair, you may want to apply a hair accessory to it. Hair accessories help accent clothing as well as let the world know your baby is a girl. You can find a number of hair accessories at your local grocery store or drug store. However, you may have trouble finding one that is unique and matches your little girl's clothing. Luckily, with just a little ribbon you can make your own hair accessory to match your baby's outfit in little time.

Instructions

1. Cut your ribbon into three pieces. You will need one that is 1-1/2 inches, one that is 3-1/2 inches and one that is 4-1/2 inches. The ribbon should all be 1/4 inch wide. Treat the cut ends of the ribbon. To do this is use a lighter to slightly burn the ends. If the ribbon ignites, quickly extinguish it. This will keep it from unraveling.

2. Apply a line of hot glue to the back of the 4-1/2 inch ribbon. The line should run from one of the treated edges and be 1-1/4 inches long. Press the glue side of this ribbon to the top, inside of an alligator hair clip. These clips can be found at your local craft store.

3. Apply a line of hot glue to the outside, top of the alligator clip. Fold the ribbon up and over the outside of the clip and press it down on the glue. You will have a bit of ribbon hanging out over the pinching prongs of the alligator clip.

4. Apply a dot of hot glue on the inside of the pinching prongs of the alligator clip. You want one dot of glue per prong. Press the ribbon that is sticking out over the prongs into the glue you just placed. Apply glue to the remaining pit of ribbon that is not glued down and press it onto the underside of the clip.

5. Apply hot glue to the treated, backside of the 3-1/2 inch piece of ribbon. The glue should just be on the tip of the ribbon. Bring the other treated end of the 3-1/2 inch ribbon around to form a circle and press it into the glue you just applied. Rotate the ribbon so the glued section is pointing down.

6. Apply more hot glue to the inside of the ribbon loop you created in the prior step. The hot glue should be on top of the glued seam. Press the center of the loop down until it reaches the glue and squeeze it to attach it.

7. Flip it over and apply more hot glue to the outside of the ribbon on the seam. Press that seam onto the top center of the ribbon covered alligator clip.

8. Squeeze the pinching prongs to open the barrette. Place another dot of hot glue on the center of the inside top of the ribbon covered alligator clip.

9. Place one of the treated ends of the 1-1/2 inch ribbons onto the glue and wrap the ribbon around the clip and the 3-1/2 inch ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around until there is no extra ribbon. Glue the loose end of the 1-1/2 inch ribbon to the inside of the clip to finish it.
