Dora the Explorer, the iconic animated character, is known for her thick, dark, somewhat triangular hairstyle with bangs. In some circles, to label someone's hair as Dora-like is an insult. Still, for some, the drive to emulate well-known figures, real or fictional, is irresistible. Children especially may succumb to the compulsion. The Dora look is best achieved with thick hair of at least earlobe length.
Instructions
1. Find a competent hairstylist. If you can find someone who handles thick hair especially well, so much the better.
2. Ask for a blunt cut with blunt bangs and insist the stylist use your image of Dora as a guide. The bluntness of the Dora cut is somewhat severe. A stylist may tell you that thick hair cut into layers allows for greater styling options. Wavy or curly hair cut blunt can pouf outward in an unattractive way if it turns frizzy. You may have to stand firm to persuade the stylist to create the Dora look.
3. Make sure the bangs are cut straight across at about the midpoint of the forehead. This type of fringe may not flatter all face shapes.
4. Grow it out. If the Dora look proves unflattering, as it will for many, keep in mind that hair typically grows about one-half inch per month. In addition, you can return to the stylist and ask for layers to soften the severity of the Dora cut.
