Korker curls make pretty hair bows
Stop searching the aisles at the craft store for curly ribbon. Wonder no more about the details of making a korker hair bow. With little effort, you can outfit your little cheerleader with the same bows that you see in consignment shops and boutiques. To make korker hair bows, you must first prepare ribbon into korker curls. From there, the bouncy tendrils can be combined with other ribbon to make layered hair bows. Group together many cuts of the curled ribbon and attach them to your choice of hair clip to complete your korker hair bow.
Instructions
1. Prepare korker curls by wrapping your dowel rods with ribbon. Secure the beginning with a clothespin and turn the dowel to wind the ribbon down the length of the dowel. Do not overlap the ribbon, but wind it as close as possible for the tightest curl. Fasten off the end with another clothespin. Repeat until you have wrapped all your dowels.
2. Lay your wrapped dowels on the middle rack of your clean and foil-lined, 250-degree F oven. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Remove the dowels from the oven and allow them to cool. Remove the ribbon from the dowels by gently pulling or unwrapping. Cut the ribbons into 2 1/2-inch lengths for a large bow. Cut them shorter for smaller bows. Use liquid seam sealant, such as Fray Check, on both ends of each ribbon to ensure the ribbon does not unravel.
3. Cut a length of thread about 12 inches long. Gather a selection of about 20 to 30 ribbons and center them on the thread. Tightly tie the thread in a knot over the ribbons. You have just created a korker.
4. Choose a hair clip that can handle the size and weight of your bow. Use a glue gun to attach the bow to the clip.
