Put Korker Bows Together

Korker bows, made from ribbons heated in the oven to look like corkscrews, bounce and swing as the wearer moves, making them especially popular with cheerleaders. The bows look complicated to make, but the process is actually simple. Assembling the bows after you have curled the ribbons is a quick project, although having an extra pair of hands makes it even more trouble-free.

Instructions

1. Cut a length of elastic cord about 4 inches long.

2. Thread the needle with a double strand of thread. Knot the end of the thread.

3. Insert the needle through the center of a korker ribbon and pull the thread through until the knot is at the back of the ribbon.

4. Slide another ribbon onto the needle. Continue until you have threaded all the ribbons.

5. Wrap the thread around the bundle of ribbons at the center two or three times where you have threaded them to hold them in place for the rest of the assembly process. Tie and cut the thread.

6. Wrap the elastic cord around the thread and make an overhand loop, as if you were starting to tie a knot.

7. Pull the cord up as tight as possible. Knot the cord and place a dot of jeweler's glue on the knot to secure it.

8. Fluff the ribbons, spreading them as needed.

9. Glue the ribbon bundle to the barrette.
