A hair bow holder keeps these small accessories neat and organized.
Many small girls have a vast collection of hair bows that threaten to overtake their dresser, the bathroom or even the entire house. These small accessories are easy to lose or break and may seem like excellent toys to cats and dogs in the house. Keep your child's hair bows corralled with a handy hair bow holder. This organizational tool can be made in a short amount of time with simple craft supplies. You can even spruce it up to match the decor of a bedroom or bathroom.
Instructions
1. Select a piece of blank canvas that is large enough to hold all of your child's hair bows neatly. The bows should not have to overlap to fit on the canvas. If you have a large collection, lay the bows out side by side on the floor with about an inch between each bow, and measure the space needed to accommodate your collection. Add at least 4 inches to either the length or width to accommodate future purchases. If your child collects new hair bows on a regular basis, you may even consider doubling the size to provide plenty of room for an expanding collection.
2. Cut a piece of fabric to the same shape as your canvas with an additional 2 inches on every side.
3. Stretch the fabric over the canvas and secure with the staple gun on the back. Make sure that the design on the fabric is centered before you begin stapling. Begin with a staple in the center of the top of the fabric. Add staples every 3 or 4 inches across the top. Secure the bottom of the fabric second, and finish the sides last.
4. Fold the corners of the fabric in neatly to make square corners and secure each corner with a staple. Trim off excess fabric.
5. Cut lengths of ribbon long enough to span the entire canvas from top to bottom plus an extra 3 to 4 inches. The ribbon should be at least 1 inch thick to securely hold the bows. Large hair bows may need ribbon 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick. You can use more than one type of ribbon if needed to accommodate a varied hair bow collection. Lay the ribbons on the canvas at even intervals and adjust until you are satisfied with their placement. The hair bows will hang from these ribbons, so they should be spaced far enough apart to allow plenty of room for each bow.
6. Staple the ribbons to the top of the canvas. If you would like, you can also staple the ribbon to the bottom of the canvas. If you leave the ribbon free, however, it may be easier to add and remove hair bows from the holder.
7. Trim the ribbons as needed so that they do not overhang the canvas backing.
8. Clip hair bows to the ribbons to store them. If your bows are very large, you may find them slipping down the ribbons. To keep them in place, cut two small slits in the ribbon and thread the back of the hair bow through these holes before securing it.
