A Japanese hair bow adds a whimsical flair to long or medium-length hair.
A Japanese hair bow is an artistic way to style long or medium-length hair. Made even more popular by music icon Lady Gaga, the hair style is worn swept to the top of the head and wrapped into two loops to give the illusion of a being tied into a bow. It is held in place with elastic bands and hair pins. For people with short hair, human and synthetic hair bows can be purchased separately and attached to the hair.
Instructions
Gather the Hair
1. Brush the hair up toward the back of the crown of the head.
2. Pull the hair into a pony tail.
3. Comb the hair until smooth and all the ends have been gathered into the pony tail.
4. Slide the elastic band over the pony tail, and press it against the head. The pony tail should be at the top of the head at the back of the crown.
5. Hold the pony tail with one hand against the inside of the elastic band, and pull the elastic band.
6. Twist the elastic band once. The elastic band should be in the shape of a figure "8" with the pony tail in one loop and a second empty loop.
7. Slide the pony tail over the "X" in the elastic band and through the empty loop. The pony tail should now be wrapped with the elastic band with two loops.
8. Repeat the previous. The pony tail should be wrapped with three loops.
Make the Bow
9. Hold the pony tail with one hand, and pull one of the loops of the elastic band. The pony tail should be secured in one loop and the second loop extended open.
10. Slide the pony tail partially through the extended loop to make one side of the bow. The hair should be in a small loop, 4 inches long or as desired.
11. Hold the loop of hair in one hand. Twist the elastic band to make a figure "8". The loop of hair should be secured in one side of the elastic band, and the second side should be open.
12. Slide the loose hair up through the second open side of the elastic band to make the second part of the bow.
13. Adjust the hair bows to the length that you desire.
14. Fan the hair apart to widen the bows.
15. Secure the bows to the crown of the head with the hair pins.
16. Wrap the remaining loose hair around the base of the bows and secure with hair pins.
