Vintage photographs of little girls often show them with a hair bow that is twice the size of their small heads. Hair bows for little girls remained in fashion throughout the last two centuries. Today's modern twist on the hair bow is a double-stacked bow. One bow stacks on top of the other and both are secured to a clip, which slips easily in and out of the hair with the bow intact.
Instructions
1. Insert a glue stick into the glue gun and plug it in.
2. Seal the frayed ends of each ribbon by holding a lighter flame close to the ends. Make sure you hold the flame close enough to seal the ribbon, but far enough away that you don't scorch or burn it.
3. Squeeze the glue gun trigger to place two drops of glue on the end of one of the ribbons. Overlap the opposite end of the ribbon and gently press them together, sealing them to form a loop.
4. Repeat this process with each ribbon until you have four separate loops.
5. Place the two largest ribbon loops next to each other.
6. Cut a 6-inch length of wire and wrap it around the middle of the two ribbons. The middle of the ribbons cinch together and are secured with the tightly wound wire.
7. Repeat the process with the two medium-sized loops.
8. Place the medium bow on top of the largest one, using that bow's wire to tie the two together.
9. Twist the wire very tightly behind the larger bow.
10. Shape the loops with your fingers and ensure the wire is twisted tightly. Snip off the excess wire.
11. Wrap the 3/8-inch wide ribbon around the center of your new bow to create a bow-tie effect, snip the ribbon to the correct length and glue it closed around the back of the bow.
12. Glue the bow to the barrette and allow it to dry before using.
