Boutique hair bows can be pricey to purchase. By making them yourself, you can achieve the same look for a fraction of the cost. The bows are quick and easy to make. If you don't already have the supplies at home, you can pick them up at a craft store.
Instructions
Korker Ribbon Bow
1. Wrap the ribbon around the dowel tightly, making sure not to overlap the ribbon. Use more than one dowel if needed.
2. Secure both ends with a wooden clothespin.
3. Turn the oven on to 275 degrees.
4. Place the dowel in the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
5. Take the ribbon off the dowels.
6. Cut the ribbons into 3-inch lengths. For one bow, you will need at least 30 pieces.
7. Coat the ends of the ribbons with clear nail polish to keep them from fraying.
8. Cut a 10-inch length of elastic cording, and lay it on the table.
9. Pile your short ribbons in the middle of the elastic. If you are using different colors or designs of ribbon, lay them out in a random order.
10. Pull the elastic up and over the ribbons, tying it in a tight knot.
11. Pull the tail ends around the ribbons again, tying it once again in a double knot. Trim the ends of the elastic.
12. Fluff out the ribbons.
13. Attach the alligator clip with hot glue.
Loopy Ribbon Bow
14. Cut six lengths of ribbon, each 30 inches long. They can all be the same color or coordinating colors/patterns.
15. Coat the ends of the ribbons with clear nail polish so that they will not fray.
16. Stack the six lengths on top of one another evenly and clip them together on one end with a clothespin.
17.Take the hair clip apart.
18. Put the top of the hair clip on the ribbon about 3 inches from the first clothespin, and clip it with another clothespin.
19. Wrap the floral wire around the end of the clip closest to the end of the ribbon. Make sure to wrap it several times to ensure it does not come undone.
20. Unclip the clothespins, and put them away.
21. Make a loop with the ribbon, which should still be laying on top of each other.
22. Wrap the wire around the base of the new loop, pulling it tightly against the first wire wrap.
23. Continue to make loops with the ribbon along the length of the hair clip. Continue wrapping with wire after each loop.
24. Cut the end of the wire when you have finished wrapping. Tuck the ends under the wire and ribbon.
25. Put the hair clip back together and fluff out the ribbons to fill out the loops.
