Dog Hairstyles
In today's fashionable world where humans love styling their hair in different ways, our treatment of dogs often follows. Different dogs need different kinds of cuts and hairstyles, depending on their breeds, the weather and, of course, the owners' preferences.
Schnauzer Cut
This cut has been used on a variety of dogs, from schnauzers to Yorkshire terriers. The body is shaved close at the top, with a fringe around the bottom of the body and on the legs. The dog also is left with a beard and eyebrows to complete the look.
Poodle Clip
One of the most recognized cuts, the body of the poodle is shaved, leaving bunches of hair resembling pompoms on different areas of the body. Generally the feet, tail, head, butt, and ears are left long and shaped into puffs of hair.
Shih Tzu Style
While the shih tzu breed standard calls for long hair and a top knot, a shih tzu's hair easily become tangled, so many pet owners choose to keep their dogs' hair cut short. Some opt for a cut that leaves the body shaved, with the face, ears and tail left longer. Some leave the paws longer for "bootie" look.
Yorkshire Top Knot
The Yorkshire terrier is known for its long locks and top-knot hairstyle. A Yorkie's hair often is left to grow long and is parted down the middle to fall evenly over each side of the body, where it then touches the floor. The long hair is pulled back from the face and held with a hair bow on top of the head.
Puppy Cut
There are times when pet owners find it easier to keep their dogs hair in what is known as a puppy cut. This is a general allover haircut that keeps the hair 1 to 2 inches in length, depending on the dog breed. The puppy cut is a way to keep dogs cooler in hot weather.
