Sassy hairbows make even the cutest girl cuter.
Little girls have enjoyed getting their done up with bows for centuries, and if the number of websites selling manufactured and hand-crafted hair accessories is any indication, this century is no different. Ribbons come in a variety of colors and styles to make made to match bows or unique bows to fit the each girl's personality. One style is called "sassy" hair bows. These are made of solid or print grosgrain ribbon shaped into a bow then adorned with cute curly ribbons that bounce and wiggle.
Instructions
Preparing the Bow
1. Cut two 3-inch pieces of wire.
2. Cut six 4-inch-long pieces of curly ribbon. Twist the one piece of cut wire around the center of the cut curly ribbons.
3. Cut 4 1/2 inches off the ribbon and make a knot at the middle of the ribbon.
4. Hold one end of the ribbon and fold its width in half and matching up the edges evenly. Cut at a V-shaped angle starting at the fold and angle toward the edges at the end.
5. Put anti-fray solution or clear nail polish along the cut edge and let it dry.
Forming the Bow
6. Fold the ribbon in half, approximately 1 1/2 inches from the V-shaped cut, with the edges toward you. Fold down each side down half way creating a pinched W-shaped gathering held between your thumb and index finger.
7. With one hand holding the fold, bring the ribbon up and over to form a loop. The loop should be approximately 2 inches wide to create a 4-inch bow.
8. Gather and fold this next part of ribbon with the hand holding the first fold. Use the same folding technique as before.
9. Shape the bow with two loops on each side keeping your folds even and tight. Wrap the precut wire around the bow's center and twist tightly two or three times with the free hand.
10. Cut the end off into a v-shaped angle to make a 1 1/2 -inch tail and seal the edge with anti-fray product or nail polish. Let dry.
11. Lay the curly ribbons over the bow and twist the wire around the center of the bow to attach the curly ribbons to the bow.
12. Glue the knot of the short ribbon over the center of the bow with a small dot of glue.
Wrap the ends of the knotted ribbon around the bow and attach them to the back side with a dot of glue.
13. Apply a thin line of glue along the top the barrette and gently press the back of the bow onto the glued area.
