Remove wrinkles and curls from ribbon with a warm iron.
Whether just off the spool or out of a storage drawer, ribbons can be full of wrinkles, curls and twists. This can be a problem, especially if you need a flat, smooth ribbon for a craft, sewing project, hair bow or are recycling ribbon to wrap a gift. Ribbons can be ironede flat in no time using a warm iron and a little bit of care. Take the worry off your face and the creases from the ribbon with this simple and easy technique.
Instructions
1. Set up an ironing board and set the iron to low heat. Lay the ribbon on the ironing board and use a spray bottle to mist its surface with water. Flip the ribbon over and mist its back side. You don't want the ribbon to become wet, just slightly damp.
2. Find one end of the ribbon and grasp it between the thumb and forefinger of your left hand. Hold the iron in the other hand and place its tip over the surface of the ribbon, about 1 inch from your grasp. Press the iron downward. Pull the ribbon toward you slowly so that it slides underneath the bottom of the iron.
3. Watch the ribbon for twists and tangles as it slides underneath the iron. Stop pulling the ribbon and lift the iron immediately if the ribbon becomes twisted before it slides under the iron. Untwist the ribbon with your fingers. Grasp the section of ribbon just before the twist, place the iron over the area and continue to pull the ribbon underneath the iron.
4. Flip the ribbon over and repeat this process on the back side. Stop pulling on the ribbon and let the iron sit on extra wrinkled spots for a few seconds. Resume pulling the ribbon. If wrinkles still exist, turn the heat of the iron up to medium and iron the ribbon again.
