Hair ribbons add color to hairstyles.
Handmade ribbons offer an individual appearance for a girl's hair. While commercial ribbons are available for adorning tresses, hand making the hair accessories ensures that no one else at the party will be wearing the same style. The homemade ribbons also offer an opportunity to match even the oddest color combinations in an outfit. Experiment with different hair attachments for the ribbons depending on the desired style for the hair.
Instructions
Curly Ribbons
1. Cut 20 to 25 equal lengths of pre-curled grosgrain ribbon.
2. Thread a sewing needle with heavy duty thread and knot the end.
3. Locate the center of the first piece of ribbon. Push the needle through the ribbon and push the piece down to the thread knot. Repeat this process with each piece of ribbon.
4. Bunch all the threaded pieces of ribbon together on the thread. Wrap the thread around the entire bunch several times. Push the needle through the wrapped ribbons and knot to secure the thread.
5. Hot glue the ribbons to a barrette, putting the knotted side down, or sew to a ponytail holder with thread.
Lots of Loops
6. Thread a sewing needle with heavy duty thread and knot the end of the thread.
7. Hold the end of the ribbon in one hand and create a loop the desired size.
8. Repeat looping and holding the ribbon until the desired amount of loops are created. Cut the ribbon so the ending piece lines up with the bottom of the loops and the beginning end.
9. Push the threaded needle through the gathered ends of the loops and ribbon. Loop the thread underneath the group and push through again. Repeat several times.
10. Tie off the thread to secure the ribbon and hot glue the bottom to a barrette.
