Crafts are enjoyable even for adults.
No matter how old you are, crafts are fun to make. Holiday crafts in particular are usually very enjoyable. You can do them at home by yourself, or you can get together with friends and bounce ideas off each other. Many Valentine crafts can also double as homemade gifts, making the work well worth the effort you put into them.
Message in a Bottle
Send a message in an empty wine bottle with this craft idea from Martha Stewart. Start by writing a heartfelt message on a piece of parchment paper. You'll then need to roll the paper up so that it's thin enough to fit into the neck of an empty wine bottle. Martha recommends you put a chopstick at the very bottom of your paper, wrap the paper around the chopstick, then use the stick to finish rolling the paper into a skinny tube. Wrap a small amount of adhesive-backed ribbon around the paper at both ends to hold it shut. Using a funnel, pour some heart-shaped bath confetti into your bottle and then stick your message inside. Close the bottle off with a cork and it'll be ready to deliver.
Love Fairy
This terra-cotta love fairy from Michael's is a useful craft for a girl's night out with friends. You will need two terra-cotta pots---one that is 1.9 inches wide and one that is 2.75 inches wide. Paint both pots any color you want. Michael's suggests doing one a light pink with small red hearts and the other red with small pink hearts. Turn both pots upside down, place the smaller one on top of the larger one. Hold it in place with hot glue. Paint a 1 1/4-inch wooden bead light pink. Add facial features with acrylic paint pens, then glue the bead on top of the small terra-cotta pot. Paint two wooden hearts white, for wings, then glue them to the back of the small pot. For hair, add doll hair (found in craft stores) with hot glue. You also can paint a third wooden shape and use a fine-tip permanent marker to write a special Valentine's message on the front of it. Glue it on the front of your fairy as though she's holding it.
Candy Bags
These handmade candy bags from Insightful Nana are useful for making bulk gift items to hand out at the office. Fold a 12-by-12-inch piece of scrapbook paper diagonally and press it down to get a good crease. Holding the paper so that the fold is on top, bring the two outside corners together, rolling the paper into a cone shape. You will have two "points" poking up at the top. That's okay, you need them. Use paper clips to hold your cone in place while you run a line of glue down the side of the cone where they overlap. When the glue dries, you can remove the paper clips. Near the top opening of the cone, about 2 inches down from the top, you'll punch two holes with a hole punch about 3 inches apart. Tie a ribbon through those holes, then tie in a bow to make a handle. Put some tissue paper inside the cone and let some of it hang out of the opening of your basket. You can then stuff it with trinkets such as candy, miniature Valentine cards or love notes.
