A pretty bow makes a gift truly special.
Whether you're assembling a gift basket as a personal present to a family member or friend or creating one to sell or donate, you know that the small details are what separate a basket with items in it and a thoughtful, beautiful gift. No gift is complete without a ribbon bow, and a full bow tied to the side or handle is just one detail to make your gift basket truly outstanding. No need to buy a bow -- you can make one yourself.
Instructions
1. Start the bow. Make a loop in the ribbon half as large as you want your finished bow to be. Leave a few inches of ribbon end as long as you want the ends to be. Pinch the base of the loop between the thumb and first finger of your non-dominant hand.
2. Add more loops. Make another loop opposite the first. (Think a flat figure eight.) Add eight to ten more loops, holding on firmly in the center where they meet. Cut the ribbon, leaving enough end to match the length of the first end. Do not let go of the ribbon.
3. Secure the bow. Take a length of thin florist wire and wrap once around the ribbon where you've been pinching it. Twist tightly to secure.
4. Finish the bow. Fluff out the ribbon loops to make a pretty, round bow. Cut the ends of the ribbon diagonally to prevent fraying. Use the wire ends to attach the bow to your gift basket.
