Create A Funky Boutique Bow With Fur

Hair bows are now more adventurous than they once were.

Hair bows have adorned the hair of men, women and children for centuries. Towards the end of the 20th century, a bold new outlook on fashion emerged, paving the way for an increased interest in children's attire. Simple hand-tied ribbons were slowly replaced with artsy headbands, scrunches and pinwheel bows. One problem in this was the expense to replace a strip of ribbon to a complicated hair bow design. Learning make your own funky boutique bow with fur will give you the skills needed to keep your children in creatively styled hair bows to match any outfit.

Instructions

Boutique Bow

1. Fold the 22-inch-long ribbon in half. Mark the center of the ribbon with a pencil. Unfold the ribbon and spread out with right side down.

2. Take one end of the ribbon and loop it around to meet the marked center line, keeping right side down and letting the end overlap about an inch. Loop the other end in the opposite direction to form a Figure-8. Use your fingers to hold the ends in place while you work.

3. Take the center-top of a loop and bring it down to the middle mark, keeping wrong side down. Repeat with the other loop to form a butterfly shape. Attach the salon clip down the middle of the bow where a butterfly's body would be positioned, making sure that the opening leaves a gap past each end of the bow.

4. Insert each end of embroidery floss through the top gaps of the salon clip on either side of bow. Cross the ends of the floss over each other and insert them back through their opposite-ended gap. Tighten and repeat, tying off in the back of the bow.

Funky Loops and Fur

5. Spread out the 32-inch-long ribbon with right side down and mark the ribbon every 8 inches with a pencil. Dab the first mark with a hot glue gun and loop the end of the ribbon around to meet the edge of the first mark. Take the second mark and loop around to meet the edge of the first mark, making sure to always keep right sides down.

6. Take the third mark, loop around to meet the edge of the second mark. Repeat this step with the end of the ribbon to form a large butterfly shape. Apply hot glue to the bottom of the boutique bow and press onto the center of the funky loops.

7. Crochet the length of the eyelash yarn into a single chain. Secure one end of the chain to the center of the bow with a dab of hot glue and spiral the chain in on itself to form a small fur ball. Hand-sew the end of the chain into the center of the bow and randomly secure sections in place if needed.
