Dual Color Hair Bow Instructions

You're pushing your precious baby girl through the grocery store decked out in pink and strapped into the cart. She is waving and smiling at fellow shoppers, when one of them approaches and comments on how adorable your little boy is. You put on a polite smile, thank her for the compliment and correct her mistake by telling her that your child, the one decked out in pink, is actually a girl. You can prevent this uncomfortable situation from happening again by adding an impossible-to-ignore homemade accessory to your little girl's outfit: a two-toned hair bow.

Instructions

1. Measure and cut an 11-inch length of both colors of 7/8-inch-wide ribbon. Cut a 4-inch length piece of one of the two colors of ribbons to serve as the center knot of the bow. Heat both ends of all three pieces of ribbon with a lighter to seal them to prevent fraying.

2. Fold each of the 11-inch lengths of ribbon in half. Crease them in the center with your fingers. Fold the ends of one of the ribbons into the center of that ribbon so they overlap by about an inch. Twist them so they come into the center at a 45-degree angle from opposing directions (one from the top and one from the bottom) to create loops on either end of the ribbon. Wrap the center of the looped ribbon with elastic cord 10 times. Tie the ends of the cord together and trim the excess. Repeat with the other 11-inch long ribbon.

3. Hot glue the two looped lengths of ribbon together in the center, angled so that all four loops are visible, two on either side of the center.

4. Tie the 4-inch long length of ribbon in a single knot. Wrap the knotted ribbon around the center of the bow and hot glue the ends together so the knot is the front of the bow and the glued ends are the back.

5. Hot glue the bow on top of an alligator hair clip. Wait two minutes for the glue to cool before using the hair bow.
