Hair bows
Bows are frequently used hair accessories that can be central to the selected hair style. Double ruffles are ribbons with ruffles on both sides. These make the resulting bows extra frilly and thick, and they can be attached directly to the hair or added to hair bands for even more styling options. Purchasing custom bows can become expensive, so it makes sense to create your own.
Instructions
1. Lay your 44-inch double ruffle ribbon on the table and cut each end at a 30-degree angle. Measure 1 1/2 inches from the left end point and write capital "A" in pencil. Measure 5 inches from there and write "B," another 5 inches and write "C." Continue measuring every 5 inches up to "I." This should leave you with a 1 1/2-inch tail on the right.
2. Turn your ribbon over and label the back with the same letters in lowercase. Your capital "A" should have a lowercase "a" on the ribbon reverse.
3. Fold "A" over and down so that a touches "b." Use a clamp-type hair clip to hold the bottom of the ribbon as you work. Fold the ribbon over and down so that "C" is on top and "c" touches "A." The bottom of the ribbon is determined by the bottom of the capital letters.
4. Fold the ribbon under and down and insert the ribbon between "c" and "A" "C" should still be on top and "c" should touch "d" and "D" should touch "A." Fold the ribbon over and up so that "E" is on top and "e" touches "c." This completes the first double lower bow. Repeat this basic pattern to create a second double upper bow.
5. Fold the ribbon under and up and insert the ribbon between "e" and "C." "E" should still be on top, and "e" should touch "f" and "F" should touch "C." Fold the ribbon over and down so that "G" is on top and "g" touches "e." Use a second hair clip to hold the top bows if you need to.
6. Fold the ribbon under and down and insert the ribbon between "g" and "E." "G" should still be on top, and "g" should touch "h" and "H" should touch "E." Fold the ribbon over and up so that "I" is on top and "i" touches "G." You will have reached the end of the ribbon.
7. Wrap 1 foot of elastic cord around the center and tie firmly. Adjust the cord and bows if they become off center when you are tying them. Insert your hair clip under the back elastic. Add a drop of hot glue between the clip and the back of your ribbons and then wrap the elastic around the ribbon and clip several times before knotting and trimming the elastic cord.
8. Tie a knot in your 7/8-inch double ruffle ribbon. Position the knot over the front center of your bow (covering the elastic cord). Apply hot glue to the back of the knot and hold the knot in place for two minutes.
9. Wrap one end around to the back of the bow. Open the clip and insert the ribbon end under the clip. Trim the excess ribbon off. Open the clip and hot glue the underside of the knotted ribbon to the sides of the bow and bottom of the clip. Close the clip to hold the ribbon in place as the glue dries.
10. Wrap the remaining end around to the back of the bow. Open the clip and insert the ribbon end under the clip. Trim the excess ribbon off. Open the clip and hot glue the underside of the knotted ribbon to the sides of the bow and bottom of the clip. Close the clip to hold the ribbon in place as the glue dries.
