Weave a heart pattern using various craft materials.
Kids can make woven heart crafts as festive Valentine's Day or themed birthday party decor. Handmade heart crafts also make creative holiday, birthday and special occasion gifts. Have kids make woven heart designs using felt, construction paper and other simple craft supplies during parties; they can take the items home as sweet favors.
Paper Heart Basket
Weave colorful paper to make a heart-shaped basket for holding love letters and cards. Fold a piece of red construction paper and a piece of pink construction paper in half. Cut the edges of the paper to make a curved oval shape. Cut three lines into the folded side of the paper and begin weaving the two sheets of paper together in an over-and-under pattern. Once the heart shape is formed, add a strip of paper at the top of the design to create a basket handle.
Woven Heart Sachet
A heart sachet makes a thoughtful Valentine's Day or birthday gift. Cut two heart shapes out of red felt. In one piece, cut three rows of slits and weave a piece of white or pink ribbon through each row. Glue the felt hearts together, leaving a small opening at the top through which you can place a scented potpourri blend or dried herbs. Finish the craft by gluing the top of the heart together. For a decorative look, glue a strip of white lace around the perimeter of the heart.
Woven Heart Ornament
A child can design a heart-shaped ornament for your Christmas tree. Cut two small heart shapes out of any color of felt; use red and green for a festive holiday look. Cut slits around the perimeter of each heart. Place the hearts on top of each other and weave a piece of ribbon or yarn through the slits to hold the shapes together. Tie a piece of ribbon into a loop and glue it to the top of the heart ornament so you can hang it.
