1860s headdresses required numerous details like florals, velvets and trims, to match the opulent gowns of the Victorian era.
The Victorian era featured opulent styling with long dresses, high necklines and tiers of ruffles and lace. The women of the 1860s topped their looks off with all sorts of head pieces, but were particularly fond of working in florals around their plaited and curled updos, most often accompanied with velvet or satin ribbons, pearls and chain trims. To achieve this decorative and multi-material look of the past, combine hair and crafting supplies for a three piece Victoria style headdress.
Instructions
1. Wrap velvet ribbon around the crown of the head. Tie the ribbon in a basic bow at the back of the head. Using the scissors, cut ribbon ends 12 inches from the bow knot. Remove ribbon headband from head.
2. Match the pearl trim to the crown length of the headband. Using the scissors cut the pearl trim to the necessary length. Apply hot glue to the under side of the velvet head band ribbon, and attach trim to the under side of the ribbon so the trim lines the bottom.
3. Apply hot glue to the top, front side of the hair combs. Attach silk flowers to the top front side of the hair combs. Let dry completely.
4. Place the pearl trimmed velvet ribbon headband around the crown of the head to assemble. Tuck flowered hair combs side by side, into hair and underneath the headband at the front of head. Flowers should by nestled at the top of the head, directly overlapping the headband.
