Christmas Activities For Children At Sunday School

There are many Christian Christmas activities teachers can do with their Sunday school students.

When choosing Christmas activities for your Sunday school students, the possibilities are only limited by your imagination. The key to choosing a successful Christmas activity is basing it on one of the many Christmas symbols and turning the symbol into a craft that is fun and easy to make. The other thing to keep in mind is time -- the activity should take less time than the length of the Sunday school class to allow for any delays.

Angel Ornament

An angel ornament can be made using a few simple items, including facial tissue, cotton balls, gold ribbon, and gold string or twine. Place a cotton ball in the middle of a sheet of facial tissue. Wrap the facial tissue around the cotton ball so the cotton ball resembles a head, and tie a piece of gold ribbon around the tissue at the base of the cotton ball where the neck would be. Finish the ornament by looping the ends of the gold ribbon to form angel wings, creating two loops like you would when tying a shoelace bow. A loop of gold string or twine glued to the back of the ornament can be used for a hanger.

Paper Plate Angel

Drawing a face on the angel is optional.

Making a paper plate angel is a fun and easy Christmas activity. The angel is made by cutting a white paper plate in half, forming a cone shape with one half and securing it with glue to make the angel's body; the other half of the plate is used for the wings and arms. The wings and are made by cutting two large triangles from the second half of the plate, and the arms are made by cutting two smaller triangles. Glue the wings to the back of the cone and glue the arms to the sides of the cone. Using cream-colored construction paper, cut out two circles for the hands and glue them to the bottoms of each arm. Cut out a larger circle for the angel's head, and draw a face, if desired. Glue the face to the top of the cone. Cut out strands of hair using craft yarn and glue it around the face of the angel -- braids, bangs or other styles can be fashioned with the yarn, if desired.

Handprint Wreath

Making a handprint wreath is an easy Christmas activity that creates a keepsake. Have the children trace their hands on red and green paper and cut out the shapes, cutting out enough handprints to connect in a complete circle. Have them glue the hands together by connecting the pinky and thumb of each hand cutout, attaching them with glue and forming a circular wreath. The wreath can then be decorated with glitter or markers. Teachers can take a picture of each student and affix the photo to the middle of the wreath, gluing the outer edges of the front of the photo to the back of the wreath so the photo faces out.

Pine Cone Christmas Tree

A pine cone Christmas tree is very easy to make using a dried and open pine cone, green paint and decorations such as glitter, beads and miniature pom-poms. Children can paint the pine cone with green paint using a sponge brush or regular bristle paint brush. Regardless of the painting tool, the pine cone should be completely covered in paint. For smaller children, teachers and parents can pre-paint the pine cones for them. Once the pinecone has dried, use a metal bottle cap or plastic soda cap to create a base for the pinecone by gluing the cap to the bottom of the pine cone. Children can decorate the pine cone Christmas tree using beads, glitter, miniature pom-poms and other items as the ornaments, affixing them with craft glue.
