Sometimes ribbon bows need extra stiffening.
The ribbon you use to make floral or hair bows needs structure to keep it firm and stiff. Although some ribbon gets this structure from wired edges, if you use wireless ribbon, your bows may require extra shaping. Make a homemade fabric stiffener for starching bows. When you finish adding the stiffness to the ribbon, the bows will hold their shapes beautifully.
Instructions
1. Measure 1 1/2 cups of water and 1/2 tablespoon of potato starch and pour the ingredients into a small saucepan. Stir the two ingredients well to mix them.
2. Heat the water and potato starch over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. When the mixture boils, remove it from the heat.
3. Cool the mixture on the counter until it is at room temperature.
4. Stir the mixture gently and pour it into a spray bottle.
5. Spray the fabric stiffener onto a pre-made bow, saturating the ribbon evenly. Allow the bow to dry completely before using it -- about eight hours.
6. Store the fabric stiffener in the refrigerator and use it within five days.
