What do you do if you're a parent on the run and don't have a lot of time to style your daughter's hair? You give her a simple hair style. These hairstyles have two different categories:quick to do but hard to keep up, or time-consuming and easy to keep up.
Quickly Done, Hard to Maintain
The classic ponytail can take less than five minutes to throw together, especially on a little girl. By the next morning, however, her hair may not look as neat as it did the day before. Wearing hair loose takes only a few simple strokes with a comb or brush and maybe a strategically placed barrette, and the child is ready to go. However, this hairstyle can go south even faster than the ponytail, and combing tangles out of a little girl's hair is a heroic feat for any parent. Girls with short hair, though, have a style that is quickly done and easy to maintain.
Time-consuming, Easy to Maintain
Hairstyles.com says that parents should keep girls' hairstyles simple or tied up to avoid tangles. Many braided styles fall into this category. Basic French braids will take longer than a ponytail or loose hair. But when done correctly, they can last at least a couple of days before you will need to redo them. More complicated braids, such as cornrows, will take even longer to do but can last up to three weeks.
Maintain a Braided Hairstyle
Maintenance may differ depending on the texture of your child's hair. If her hair is naturally straight, a good dose of styling gel before braiding and hairspray afterward may do the trick. If your child's hair has curls or waves, a good detangler and styling gel will work. Sleeping in a satin scarf for either type of hair also will help keep tangles away.
