Making beautiful, inexpensive bows for your little girl is an easy and rewarding craft. These bows can be made quickly and are constructed from simple materials. You can decorate the bows with Hello Kitty Beads to please your Hello Kitty enthusiast. You will also be able to use this same style of bow to decorate presents and packages by changing the material of the ribbon. These charming bows are meant to please.
Instructions
1. Measure and cut a 23-inch length of ribbon.
2. Fold the ends of the ribbon in half and cut a diagonal line into it, cutting from the fold to the outside corner of the ribbon. This will create a V-cut at the ends of the ribbon.
3. Paint a small amount of fray check on the edges of the V-cut to prevent the ribbon from losing threads.
4. Fold the ribbon in a circular pattern, which will create a ribbon bundle. Do this by straightening the ribbon in front of you into a horizontal line. On the right side of the ribbon, measure 4½ inches. Fold the tail of the ribbon to the left by this length. Fold the ribbon again, folding the right side of the ribbon inward (to the left) 4½ inches. Continue folding the ribbon by taking the right side and folding it inward by a length of 4½ inches.
5. The first tail will end up in the middle of the folded ribbon. The other tail will be on the outside of the folded ribbon, pointing the opposite direction of the first tail. If the ribbon tail extends past the bundle or stops short, you need to refold the ribbon so that the tail is the same length as the bundle.
6. Keeping the creases of the ribbon bundle together, pull the interior ribbon tail from the center of the bundle and line it up next to the exterior tail. The tails will be pointed in opposite directions.
7. In the center of the ribbon bundle, pinch the middle of the lengths of ribbon together with your forefinger and thumb. Start with the tails, and then pinch each of the length of ribbon in the bundle. Pinching the ribbon in the center of each length will gather the ribbon into a bow shape.
8. Secure the bow by wrapping craft wire around the center where you have gathered the ribbon. After twisting the wire together, snip off the extra wire and push the twisted wire flat with against the back of the bow.
9. Adjust the tails and loops of the bow by pulling the ribbon on either side of the craft wire. Round the bows with your fingers. Continue shaping the bow until it is well-formed.
10. Tie a small piece of ribbon around the wire in the center of the bow. Use a hot glue gun to glue the edges of this bit of ribbon together on the backside of the bow.
11. Select a Hello Kitty bead for the center of the bow. Resin beads are colorful and work well for this purpose. Use the hot glue gun to attach the bead.
12. Apply glue from the hot glue gun to the hair fastener. Place the ribbon on the fastener and apply light pressure.
