Ribbons can be transformed into a pretty net.
Nets have been around since ancient times, but often they seem a bit puzzling when a person first tries to make one. You can make a net out of any type of string, cording, wire, strip of fabric or anything you can roughly shape into a string. Making a ribbon net is a neat craft idea since the ribbon net can then be used to hold toys as a canopy, as a curtain or in any number of ways. Making a ribbon curtain is a fast project you can finish quickly.
Instructions
1. Screw two screw eyes further apart than you want the width of your net. Place the eyes at shoulder height if you want to sit while netting or lower if you want to sit.
2. Cut a length of ribbon long enough to go between the screw eyes. Tie the ribbon so that it is tight and taut. You don't want to deal with sag when it isn't necessary.
3. Cut ribbons twice the length of the net you want. Determine how far apart you want to space your net openings. If you wanted a 24-inch wide net with openings 1-inch apart then you would make 25 cut ribbon strips.
4. Fold your cut ribbon in half. Slide the loop behind the horizontal ribbon so that the loop is above the ribbon. Slip the loose ends through the loop and pull the loose ends until the loop is snug against the horizontal ribbon. Repeat this with each cut ribbon using a ruler to check your spacing along your horizontal ribbon.
5. Take the second ribbon from the first vertical set of ribbons on the left side. Take the first ribbon from the second vertical set. Gather these together. Form a loop about 1-inch below your horizontal ribbon and bring the loose ends through the loop. Pull on the loose ends until the knot is snug. Take the second ribbon from the second vertical set and the first ribbon from the third vertical set. Gather these together. Form a loop and bring the loose ends through the loop, pulling until the knot is snug. Continue across the row.
6. Check that your height spacing is the distance you want and that each knot is the same distance from the horizontal ribbon. On your next row you will gather the first and second ribbons from the first vertical set together. You will follow this alternating pattern down the length of the net.
