Decorate with easy-to-work-with, inexpensive tulle. An entire wedding can be elegantly decorated at a fraction of the cost by creating beautiful tulle bows. These bows can be used to decorate the church as well as the reception area. Be creative and use the bows in the entry at the guest table or even on the columns. Large or small, use this idea any time you need a quick, delicate bow.
Instructions
1. Determine the size bow you will make and use this handy guide. For a bow that is 8 inches in diameter, you will need 3 yards. One that is 12 inches in diameter will use 4 yards. For a larger bow that is 16 inches in diameter, you will cut 5 1/2 yards of tulle. Always allow 1/2 yard for the tails, no matter what size bow you will make.
2. Lay a foam board or heavy cardboard on a flat surface and mark the width of bow. Cut the length of the tulle according to the size bow you will make, and pin all corners to the board with straight pins. Fold accordion pleats, at least five loops on each side, then pin securely through all layers at each corner.
3. Cut a separate length of 3 feet of tulle and slide it under the center of the bow. Tie tightly into a square knot to secure. Unpin the corners and fluff the layers of the loops.
4. Embellish with greenery, flowers and ribbon. These tulle bows may be used for wedding decorating accessories such as pew bows, chair backs, reception tables or gift wrap bows.
5. Dress up a tutu for a ballerina by gathering a small section of tulle and tying it in the center. Make and secure two bows together and attach a flat ribbon bow sewn in the center of the tulle bow. Sew the bow on the back of the tutu. A smaller version may be used as a hair bow.
