People have used bows to adorn clothing for thousands of years. Doing so is a great way to make clothes look more elegant and impressive. Although there are many kinds of bows, ranging from silk to polyester, the concept is relatively the same. Read more to learn how you can easily tie a bow onto your clothing.
Instructions
1. Decide on the kind of fabric you wish to use to make your bow. If your clothing is shiny, go for silk or satin. Match the color of your bow to the material.
2. Figure out how you are going to attach the bow to your clothing. For example, a bow tie is threaded through the collar. Conversely, a bow can be tied around a dress and looped around the waist for heightened elegance. For maximum simplicity, pin the bow to a lapel.
3. Fold a simple bow by laying a piece of ribbon flat. Without allowing a twist, fold the fabric back onto itself and pin the ends together at the midpoint. These are the kinds of simple bows people often use to raise awareness for a cause.
4. Create a loop in the ribbon and then push the end through the loop. Pull some of the slack. Turn it into a square knot by tying the other end the same way, in the opposite direction. This square knot is a good base for the bow.
5. Ensure that both of the ends of your bow are somewhat even. Leave one end pointing down and loop the other under it. Fold one in half to one side, with slack pointing to the other. Hold the ends together and allow a little space to thread the hanging end through it.
6. Pull the loop through, and admire the loose bow you’ve created. Pull the bow from both ends to adjust it until it looks the way you want it. Trim the ends of the bow until they are even.
