Supplies To Begin Monogramming Wood Pendants

Monogramming is an option for people interested in creating jewelry. A monogram is a symbol created out of at least two letters, for example an individual's initials. Monograms can be placed on a range of materials, including a wooden pendant. If you've got a wood pendant you'd like to place a monogram on, you'll need to acquire a few items to accomplish.

Spare Wood

Pieces of spare wood have a few uses when it comes to monogramming wooden pendants. For a start, you'll need the wood you're monogramming onto. You'll also need wood during the monogram design process because it's worth trying the concept you've created out on a spare piece before working on the real thing. If you don't have spare wood lying around your yard, ask your neighbors or any builders or other craftspeople you know. Failing that, places such as sawmills and lumberyards might sell wood for a reduced price.

Pencil and Paper

You need to sketch a design that'll become the monogram on the wood pendant. It's wise to have a pencil ready to get creative and come up with some initial sketches. You can doodle to begin with in a notepad. When you've come up with a design you're happy with, trace that monogram onto a piece of paper. If it still looks right, use the pencil to trace the monogram onto the wood itself. This lets you see how the design will look on the wood and provides an outline for you to follow when monogramming.

Painting Supplies

Some people choose to place the monogram onto a wood pendant using only paint. If you've opted to do this, you'll need to acquire paints in the colors of your choosing, and ensure you have glazes to protect the paint job afterward. Use a flat 1-inch paintbrush to apply the coats first, and when those are dry, use finishing glazes. Paper towels are useful when painting to remove excess liquid.

Wood Burner

Some craftspeople prefer to manufacture monogrammed wood pendants using wood burner tools. These tools are available from craft stores. When using one of these to monogram, you'll need to trace the monogram design from paper onto the wood pendant. After heating up the wood burner tool, use the lines you've traced as guidance for carving out the design on the wood.

Cord for Pendant

The final supply you'll need for a wood pendant is cord, which you'll attach to the item so that you can wear it. Cord is available online and from stores, and the materials involved can vary. Suitable materials include nylon and silk cord.
